Scaffolding and Construction Finance

Case Studies

Building a relationship to last

Building a relationship to last

AML Scaffolding is a major South Wales company that was created in Cardiff in 1975 by Alan Leaman and is now run by his son Michael.

When Alan and Armada’s Chairman, Kirk Smith, first met they had much in common, both strong family men, they have a passion for their companies and the service they give and a love of the oval ball.

Over a pint of the black stuff at the Principality Stadium they forged a relationship that has lasted over ten years.

When Michael needs additional tubing, fixtures or boards he knows that Armada are there to support him with lightning fast service and reliability. As he said –

“Knowing you are there for our business makes life so much easier and we can concentrate on running our business.”

Armada - helping to grow the business

Armada - helping to grow the business

The Herbert family of MGG Scaffolding in North Wales have always purchased all their equipment from their own resources.

They now see that by financing their tubes, fittings and boards through Armada, they can ‘move the business forward’.

“Armada was very, very helpful from beginning to end. We would recommend them to anyone looking for finance for their business.”

Fast, efficient, no-nonsense finance

Fast, efficient, no-nonsense finance

Being the main contractor for the Celtic Manor Resort and having Marks & Spencer suppliers as customers, Rob Chard and his team at Recrite Scaffolding know that only exacting standards will cut the mustard with his customers.

Not surprisingly Rob expects his suppliers to live up to his standards.

When Rob needs new scaffolding he now turns to Armada to funds his tubing, boards and fittings. Speed of decision making and service is expected.

Understanding scaffolders and their industry over decades makes Armada the first port of call when needing asset finance.

“This is the second time I have used Armada and it was the same excellent experience; simple, straightforward and no fuss. Thank you.”

Dedicated to the scaffolding industry

Dedicated to the scaffolding industry

As in many part of the country, Birmingham and the West Midlands has seen a significant growth in the housing sector. This activity level is expected to continue.

Established scaffolding companies are wanting to increase their stocks of tubes, fittings and boards, to take advantage of the current growth and to prevent competitors from encroaching.

Historically, lenders have shied away from the scaffolding industry as they don’t put any value in the assets. However, Armada have been supporting this industry for over 20 years. We are funding the people, not the assets.

With a good track record Armada will continue to help an industry that is building homes and business premises for the future.

Trusting Armada's reputation

Trusting Armada's reputation

Bryndulais Scaffolding in Neath focus their business to handle council projects and major construction contracts rather than the fast turnaround scaffolding of house building.

Since 1990 they have scaffolded castle, churches, bridges and towers – sites where their equipment is in place for many months.

In order to control their cash flow, when a new contract is signed and they need additional tubes, boards and fittings they turn to Armada Asset Finance to fund the purchases.

Managing Director, Bryn Jones knows that Armada are the most experienced funders to his industry and he appreciates their knowledge and the personal service he gets.

“Armada have been a real pleasure to deal with. They make the whole process very straightforward and painless!”

Building a future together

Building a future together

If you are a 50 year old bricklayer who spends his whole life house building for national companies and you need to purchase £50K worth of scaffolding, where do you turn to find funding for the purchase.

Andrew Curtin of A & S Bricklaying Contractors in Swansea was the man and his enquiry was immediately answered – “Talk to Armada, they’re the experts.”

A contract to fund the scaffolding was quickly raised and Andrew was able to chill out and concentrate on his bricks and mortar.

“Armada were so quick and efficient. They got me an answer within 24 hours and they were a real pleasure to deal with.”

Andrew Curtin.

Always ready to support

Always ready to support

John and Daniel Ledger of Ledger Scaffolding, East Devon, knew of Armada Asset Finance’s reputation as the country’s foremost financiers of scaffolding equipment.

Recently they decided to stop hiring all their tubing and to make a significant purchase of tubes, fittings and boards. They approached Armada for support. We were delighted to assist this company which has been established for 20 years.

“The service and speed of Armada was fantastic.”

No hold-ups, just support

No hold-ups, just support

Building and scaffolding company, GK Worden & Son of Cornwall, were delighted recently to be awarded the scaffolding contract for a major housing development by a top national house builders.

Due to the on-going success of this established company, Wordens had insufficient tubing and boards for the new requirement.

Having had a continuous relationship with Armada Asset Finance since 2007 it was a no-brainer to ask for support to purchase the equipment they needed.

Within 24 hours of requesting assistance Wordens were informed that they had the funding in place and could order their tubes and fittings and boards.

“Armada has just been excellent to deal with for many years.”

No bull - high energy service

No bull - high energy service

Red Bull, the Austrian energy drinks company, is well known for its involvement in Grand Prix Racing and promoting and organising extreme sports.

In September 2013 the Red Bull cliff diving championships were held at the Blue Lagoon near St Davids in Pembrokeshire (well worth Googling). Carningli Scaffolding was tasked with erecting the diving platform.

Carningli have been operating in South West Wales since 2002. William Gallacher’s career has been in the scaffolding industry but his partner, James Davies is a retired Lloyds banker.

James knows and understands finance so when they required additional tubing, fittings and boards it was to Armada Asset Finance that he turned.

Having previously struggled to get finance from asset funders, who are reluctant to support scaffolders, James was delighted at the speed of service he received from Armada.

“Armada were a knight in shining armour. We will definitely use them again.”

A grate way to assist our clients

An article that Armada circulated recently about safety decking proved to be an answer to a problem being experienced by a well established fish farm in Scotland.

The aluminium walkways surrounding their fish tanks in the loch, being constantly sprayed by seawater, were causing a safety hazard.

The open mesh decking made from resins & quartz grit gave their staff a high degree of safety and stability, even in icy conditions.

Thinking that the decking would not be fundable by asset finance, the owners of the fish farm were delighted when Armada was willing to support them with £50k's worth of panels.

No slip-ups with Armada

A new approach

A new approach

A major change took place in the scaffolding industry in 2000, when, for the first time Armada funded tubing and fittings on a 12 month asset finance agreement. Immediately, across the country, scaffolders realised that equipment leasing with Armada was significantly cheaper than open-ended rental.

The speed of decision making at Armada, together with major tax benefits and positive friendly support for an industry that had never experienced this before has created lasting relationships.

Whether scaffolders are involved in small spec house building projects, covering national monuments and cathedrals or assisting the build of an Olympic village, asset funding over 12 months, 24 months or 36 months is FUNDamentally right.
