Armada cures funding issue

Armada cures funding issue

Working with family and friends in the Punjabi community, brothers Raj & Manpreet have opened five pharmacies next door or close to doctors’ surgeries.

By including their accountant and keeping strictly to a business plan they are on track to open a new retail pharmacy within or close to a doctors’ practice every six months.

Raj has listed their requirements that they wish Armada to asset finance in each shop in order to use their cash for the building works and purchasing the freeholds, where possible.

Shop fittings, alarms and EPOS systems, drug cabinets and refrigeration are all items suitable for equipment finance for their chemists shops.

In early 2010 Mike Woods approached Armada via his accountant. After many years of management in the bakery industry he wanted to set up a company to produce nut-free celebration cakes for children who suffer with nut allergies.

His judgement was perfect as he can already count on Sainsburys, Tesco and Asda as some of his high profile customers. His choice of funder was also excellent as Armada financed much of the assets he needed to set up his business.

This is another example of an accountant and an asset finance company working together to support a start-up company and create jobs.

Organic Growth

Going from an organic farm shop to starting up an e-tailing business took considerable research and planning for Charlotte. Although she understood her products and had a large personal following she had no internet selling experience. Fortunately she was able to rely on the support of her cousin who had a BSc in computer science.

Having funded various items of equipment in Charlotte’s shop we have subsequently supported her with asset finance for all her IT equipment including numbers of servers. Her circumstances were outside the box but Armada’s underwriters spent time understanding her and her business and were pleased to support her growth.

Simon was asked by his son’s school to take a lad on for two weeks’ work experience in his artisan bakery. He was more than happy to oblige, though he saw it more as an interruption than anything constructive.

When Kieran arrived he was bright, helpful, interested and constantly asked questions. After a few days Simon let him work with dough and when he saw Kieran kneading and braiding he knew the lad was especially gifted. At the end of the placement Simon was delighted that the boy happily took up his offer of an apprenticeship.

Three months later Simon asked Armada for equipment finance for a new 80 KG mixer and a replacement pastry brake. He was keen to encourage his new found talent.

Sammy Ho & Martin Chow already have four standard Chinese restaurants and several letting properties. After significant research and sitting down with their accountant several times they decided to purchase a failed fish and chip shop, refurbish it to a very modern, high standard and have Sammy’s brother run it for them.

Wanting to keep all their cash for future property purchases, their accountant advised them to talk to Armada, knowing that we had been very supportive of the Chinese community for nearly forty years and knew more about the catering industry than any other lender.

Martin & Sammy signed an asset finance agreement for a four-pan range, fryers and a Sammic potato peeler.

Having been an agricultural contractor for many years, Malcolm was very aware of the health and safety issues surrounding farm machinery, and insisted his staff keep the very expensive machines spotless at all times.

So often his farmer customers commented that they wished their machinery was in the same condition that eventually Malcolm decided to set up a farm machinery cleaning division.

By taking up equipment finance contracts with Armada for industrial vacuuming machines and pressure/steam cleaning equipment, Malcolm was able to keep his existing finance relationships intact for the purchase of his farm machinery.

Margaret & Richard bought their 40-bedroom hotel in the Lake District in 1997. As both of them had backgrounds in catering they sensibly decided to concentrate on building a reputation for food and maximising their occupancy. They wisely asked their son-in-law to run the gym and pool at the hotel.

Fifteen years later and the gym needed a complete makeover. Stephen came to Armada for support for the cross-trainers, resistance bikes and treadmills. The requirement was for £45 k of asset finance. With Richard & Margaret guaranteeing the transaction Armada was happy to support.

Years before the Olympic Games came to Britain, planning was taking place on the venue, infrastructure and architectural designs for the stadia and supporting facilities.

Much of the groundworks needed extensive tunneling under the Thames and other rivers in East London, and some of the contracts went to a little-known engineering company in Somerset that had been in existence for over 100 years.

With their accountant’s recommendation and encouragement they came to Armada to asset finance diggers, borers and much of the specialised massive underwater drills they needed. Armada was proud to be involved.

Theo & Eleni could stand the problems in Greece no longer. Eventually they decided to emigrate to Britain and settled near Altrincham in Cheshire, not too far from Eleni’s uncle who has restaurants in and around Manchester.

Eleni had worked in a thalassotherapy unit back home in Kos and decided to open a hair and beauty salon to satisfy the local need of wealthy young women who had not been touched by the recession.

Because they were new to the country, about to start a new business and were renting their house, no bank or asset finance company was prepared to support them.

When they came to Armada we asked if their uncle would back their project. He was only too pleased to guarantee his family and Armada was only too pleased to fund all the assets needed.

The new Laithwaithes Medical Centre was to be state of the art. The very latest IT appointment booking system was ordered, consulting rooms and treatment rooms were planned, the latest dispensary was designed and even a mini theatre for small procedures was to be incorporated.

However, with so little support coming from the banks, the doctors were at a loss as to how they could fund all the equipment they needed on top of the build cost.

A specialist who knew that Armada had funded the complete fit-out of a private hospital in Devon suggested they make contact. Armada was asked for asset finance for all the medical equipment and the specialist IT equipment.
