Entrepreneurs with a passion for Far Eastern flavours

Entrepreneurs with a passion for Far Eastern flavours

Although not Japanese themselves, brothers Kash and Asam Munir had always admired the Wagamamas  dining concept and had the idea of opening a fast food noodle bar in the Midlands using fresh produce and far eastern flavours to create a simple and healthy takeaway menu.

Once the brothers had secured the premises they came to a standstill as they had enough savings and investment from family for certain elements of the venture but were stuck when it came to working out how to pay for all the equipment needed to ensure the noodle bar was a quality establishment.

When a friend suggested asset finance, Kash did some research online and came across Armada as experts in funding catering equipment and fit-outs. Within 24 hours of picking up the phone, the brothers had secured the £90k needed to complete the fit-out which included the counter, furniture, flooring and most of the kitchen equipment.

The entrepreneurs plan to open more bars in the near future with Armada as their finance partner.

Helping the business wheels to turn

Helping the business wheels to turn

Jonathan Wright sensibly chose the centre of Cardiff to open his café – bike shop  -  lots of active young people working in the city and at the university.

Jonathan also had the sense to realise that he needed stacks of cash for stock in the shop  -  bikes, clothing, spares etc, so it was logical to finance the equipment he needed, particularly the more unusual expenditure.

As well as catering equipment he asked for finance for flooring and bike racks, not a problem. We go out of our way to help and support start-up businesses.

We obviously made a new friend, as Jonathan said –

“Thank you for your support and bearing with us through the long opening process.”

Hua and Lian both come from Chinese families steeped in the restaurant and takeaway industries in the UK.

They have followed the rapid rise of bao bun outlets in the United States and now beginning in the UK and have formulated plans to open a string of takeaways and food carts specialising in these steamed buns with various savoury and sweet fillings.

With Armada’s extensive history of working with the Chinese restaurant community, it wasn’t surprising that Hua sought our advice and support.

Having now purchased their first small takeaway unit and acquired a tuk tuk for home deliveries, the plan is for Hua and Lian to use their resources to fund the fit out of premises with Armada paying for the equipment needed as well as carts and vans.

Working with Armada means that Hua can replicate his roll-out plans across the country quickly.

Chester goes Yankee

Chester goes Yankee

For over 80 years Americans have been enjoying high-end burgers and luxury shakes in the Steak ‘N' Shake operations across the US.

More recently they have opened franchises in mainland Europe and the Middle East. Now, with Armada’s support and involvement, the first UK sit-in and take-out restaurant has opened in Chester.

Successful entrepreneurs, Barry and Sarah Bellamy had taken time to find the right franchise for them and to locate the ideal premises for their new venture.

Knowing that their capital is better employed in their other businesses, Barry and Sarah looked around to find a funder to finance equipment for the new fast-food unit.

Was it because Armada has over 40 years’ experience of asset finance for start-ups and the restaurant industry or was it that our friendliness and speed of service matched their ethos?

They chose Armada as their finance partner and funded all the equipment on a tax-efficient 3 year contract.

Proving our metal

Proving our metal

In 2016, newly created metal working company, Napex Fabrications Ltd, based in Kent, needed a selection of metal bending and folding machines in order to establish itself in a variety of markets, providing bespoke solutions for anything from bicycle parking rails to large scale architectural projects.

Director, Richard Galetti, unsure where to turn for finance, took to the internet for his research. One company stood out from the crowd, Armada Asset Finance and after initial conversations, Richard chose Armada as his finance partner. On providing all the relevant information, finance was promptly in place and Richard was delighted with the service he received.

“Thank you for your excellent service. You have been friendly and approachable and have always responded immediately. Your professional approach has resulted in an impressively quick turnaround, helping to get our business off the ground and running smoothly.”
Ricardo Galetti, Napex Fabrications

Building a relationship to last

Building a relationship to last

AML Scaffolding is a major South Wales company that was created in Cardiff in 1975 by Alan Leaman and is now run by his son Michael.

When Alan and Armada’s Chairman, Kirk Smith, first met they had much in common, both strong family men, they have a passion for their companies and the service they give and a love of the oval ball.

Over a pint of the black stuff at the Principality Stadium they forged a relationship that has lasted over ten years.

When Michael needs additional tubing, fixtures or boards he knows that Armada are there to support him with lightning fast service and reliability. As he said –

“Knowing you are there for our business makes life so much easier and we can concentrate on running our business.”

Working together for the long-term

Working together for the long-term

When long-term clients and friends Peter and Victoria Buttle returned to Armada for further funding for their Apple Tree children’s nursery group, we were delighted to help.

With further sites and expansion planned, they knew from past experience not to use their cash reserves to pay for renovations. They knew that asset finance with Armada makes more sense.

The flag ship nursery in Magor needed its outside space revamping. Armada funded equipment many other lenders wouldn’t consider, including outdoor matting and bespoke play equipment.

“The children can’t wait to use the new garden. Thanks again to Armada, for the fourth time you have exceeded our expectations. Looking forward to working on the next project together when we open our new nurseries later this year.”

Getting the best quality by using finance

Getting the best quality by using finance

With their deli store having been handed down through three generations it was high time for a major refurbishment. David and Penny decided to take three months away from the business to think through where they wanted to take the business and to undertake some serious research.

The outcome was to make their retail more grocery/ convenience store orientated and to add a new wine section. Designs were created for high-end, custom-made curved fittings and cabinets and to replace all the flooring. The cost of the re-fit was £120,000.

With a strong company balance sheet and owning their own home David and Penny asked how much support they could have from Armada. They were surprised and delighted when all the carpentry, refrigeration and flooring were included in the asset finance agreement. Their customers obviously approve as they have never been busier.

Funding with a conscience

Funding with a conscience

When a planning application was published for a new petrol station on the edge of a large new housing estate in Berkshire, Ajay and his wife approached the developers with a view to running the convenience store incorporated in the development.

As Ajay and Poonam’s families already knew Armada well they approached us to see if we would finance the fit-out of the new business.

Although this was a start-up venture and the requirement was for £110K, for shopfittings and refrigeration, we were happy to support as their families were prepared to guarantee the transaction.

Armada has always been dedicated to supporting new-start businesses as long as we feel the customer is not taking too many risks. Responsible lending is vital to the success of both parties.

Playing to your strengths

Playing to your strengths

Knowing that Armada has been doing business with hotels for over 40 years, Nigel, a long established client, asked if he might ‘pick our brains’. He wanted an independent overview of his operation and ideas for change if we thought they were needed.

Our suggestion was that he became more family orientated with specific investment being made to attract children.

Nigel took our suggestions on board and after a few building alterations and marketing changes he was soon attracting a younger crowd.

We financed both indoor and outdoor play facilities for the hotel and funded the latest listening and security systems in order that parents could enjoy some down time.

With a 20% increase in booking in the first year the investment is more than paying for itself. As we pointed out to Nigel, if he concentrates his efforts in giving the children a good time he will naturally build his future customer base and loyalty.
