Archives Month: May 2013
In an article in The Telegraph on 9th May 2013, John Meredith, 74, who has run Hutchison Port Holdings for 42 years, pledges to assist UK businesses to finding contacts in foreign markets, advice on tax and law etc, as a “completely free service.”
How refreshing and inspiring to find a successful, active business person who unselfishly works for the benefit of others.
Recently Lord Ashcroft signed up to give half his £1.2billion fortune to the Giving Pledge charity, founded by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett.
Previously Sir Richard Branson and numbers of other Brits joined the illustrious list of international billionaires committed to giving half their fortunes to eradicate disease, poverty, modern slavery and other causes in need of funding.
The list of philanthropists also includes Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia, Mark Zuckerberg, David Sainsbury and Andrew Forrest, Australia’s richest man.
Through this charity Bill Gates and his colleagues aim to eradicate malaria and TB throughout the World.
Hopefully this growing commitment of successful entrepreneurs will create a seed change in the philosophy and attitude of people around the globe, causing an outward looking selflessness for generations to come. We may see an end to the L’Oreal inspired advert mentality “Because I’m worth it.”
